Darling Daisy!

If you have been here a while or met me in person, you will know I love a good 70’s fashion moment, and as I have been exploring a hobby of sewing over the past year, I have found myself getting drawn to the Daisy motif. Once I looked into the symbolism of the Daisy, I fell more in love with it and had to explore it further with the Daisy Ring.

The daisy, with its simple yet enchanting design, has long been associated with purity, innocence, and beauty. Its pristine white petals and sunny yellow centre evoke feelings of freshness and joy. The flower has deep roots in various cultures, often symbolising new beginnings, love, and the beauty of nature.

Historically, the daisy has been featured in literature, art, and folklore, embodying diverse meanings. In medieval times, it was a symbol of the Virgin Mary’s purity. During the Victorian era, the language of flowers, or floriography, was popular, and the daisy represented innocence and loyal love. Artists like Vincent van Gogh and William Wordsworth celebrated the daisy in their works, immortalising its charm.

In the vibrant and revolutionary eras of the 1960s and 1970s, the daisy motif experienced a resurgence that echoed the spirit of the times. This period, marked by social change, self-expression, and a rejection of traditional norms, saw the daisy emerge as a symbol of peace, love, and freedom. The flower’s simplicity and association with nature perfectly complemented the laid-back, bohemian aesthetic of the counterculture.

As I had so much fun exploring the Daisy motif in our Daisy Bangle in 2023, the New Daisy Ring is a cute addition that can give a nod to the nature lovers and yet be a subtle addition to your jewellery collection. A great ring to layer and stack in with the rest of your ring collection.

The circular arrangement of the daisy petals symbolises unity and wholeness, making it a perfect gift for commemorating bonds and milestones. Whether worn as a symbol of friendship, love, or personal growth, the daisy ring is a reminder of the interconnectedness of life.

I love the sense of renewal that the Daisy has as using all recycled Sterling Silver to create the piece, reinforces that idea as it can be again made anew over and over like the Daisy with come back and flower year after year.

I hope you have enjoyed our little exploration of the Daisy print and learnt more about it’s rich history. Check out the Daisy Ring and Bangle available online now. If you have any other associations with the Daisy motif, I would love to hear it either via comment, email or on our socials.

xx Corinne

For the love of La Fleur

La Fleur has arrived! This design has been something that has been waiting to get out and has finally come to fruition.

La Fleur literally translates to ‘the flower’. The focus of the design was to use the Daisy motif as the basis for the design and through repetition and form create the design.

With inspiration in mandalas and the concentric patterns of the east combined with this very 70’s style Daisy, the design is new and interesting.

In the Mandala structure and the natural imagery, the design is like looking at a bouquet of flowers from above and the stone being the centre. That way you see it at full bloom every time.

As it’s Spring here, the transformation of the garden is always amazing to me. To see everything so bare and sparse to being rich with colour, reminds me to move forward and be ok with transformation within myself and bloom to my true potential.

Once the daisy mandala design was finalised, the next step was to choose the stones!

I went through many iterations as this design lends itself to many interpretations, but finally chose ones that complemented and enhanced the details to make a harmonious piece.

The final stones for the full collection being Amazonite, Ruby Zoisite and Unakite and an additional Amethyst and Rose Quartz for the Rings.

As most of you know here at ASC we are we love to make sure we have lots of sizes of rings for all of you individually sized people. The logistics of this can be challenging so making an adjustable ring was my mission.

With a substantial ring band to hold not only are large shape and stone but to also keep the tension so that you can have a strong, yet adjustable ring.

Another point of difference in the collection is the Necklace. By choosing to orientate the design, it gives a fresh look that makes it fun and easy to wear.

I hope you have enjoyed exploring the design process of this new collection. It is always an exciting time in the studio when a new collection is coming into being and I look forward to seeing you all wearing the La Fleur Collection!

A Full Circle Moment with Bangles

silver bangles sustainable handmade stacking

Bangles have been one of those Jewellery pieces that I used to be a go and and would wear in abundance! Jingling and jangling all over the place. As I became a full time jeweller, I started to find they were a bit of a pain to wear when working and eventually just stopped wearing them. Therefore I was not as inspired to make them for a while.

With the launch of the Bangle Making Workshop, I knew it was time to get back into making and wearing Silver Bangles!

DESIGN

The journey of designing this collection started with the feature Bangles and was so fun experiment with so many ideas and get into the design process. An Astrology themed one was a must and loved featuring all star signs, stars and moons flowing around the band.

bangle sample textures and drawings

The Patterns were a little harder to crack as my designs on paper came out ver busy and intense in person, so I went with the Archie design as it had movement and flow without being intense!

Lastly the Daisy Bangle came out a love of nature and a love of the 70’s vibe. After having the Daisy Jones and the Six soundtrack in my head the whole time I was designing, it needed to be in the full Flower power theme!

The thinner bangles were an exploration of texture. So i pulled out the very heavy rolling mill and got to experimenting! From this the Lace Bangle was a quick decision and the the Spiral had a few false starts before it came into its own with both a rolled texture and then twisted to get the unique spiral formation.

The Pentagon Bangle was the last of all to evolve even though i sampled this exact design for the workshops, i was wanting to find a new way, but sometimes you just have to go with your first instincts and commit!

Behind the Pendulum

One of my big loves in the creative process is to see the evolution of a piece from the design stage, through to the prototype and then to the final piece. The Pendulum Collection is the first collection to be designed and implemented across my main two mediums – Glass and Silver.

The original inspiration for this piece were based on Art Deco patterns. There are so many homes that have been stripped of their original Deco features, so this is my nod to those lost pieces. I really love the few curved motifs in this style so the fish scale pattern was the basis of the design.

The other main feel for the piece was to have a feel of a chandelier. Having movement and having more light reflection. Therefore the rest of the form came from creating balance in multiple hanging pieces.

As the Glass version of this piece was the first design, where colour was the eye catching focal point, the Silver was more about flipping the script. Where texture became the main body focus and colour to accentuate the Chandelier quality of the design.

Each Silver piece has a different texture to catch and reflect the light differently all created with hammer techniques. Creating it in both Earrings and a long Pendant to really get lots of movement as you move.

Colour is added through semi precious stone drops each with their own energy, so you can match your colour palette or bring in more a certain energy. Explore each meaning below.

Rose Quartz: is the stone of universal love. It restores trust and harmony in relationships, encouraging unconditional love. Rose Quartz purifies and opens the heart at all levels to promote love, self-love, friendship, deep inner healing and feelings of peace.

Aquamarine: has a calming quality to help reduce stress and find stillness of mind. It is a stone of is a stone of courage.  Its calming energies reduce stress and quiet the mind. It also helps clarify your thoughts and clear and confusion.

Amazonite: Known as the ‘hope stone’. Said to awaken compassion for others, calm aggression and soothe the chakras. It enhances loving communication and is incredibly healing.

I hope you have enjoyed exploring the inspiration behind this beautiful collection and please feel free to check them out online now!
